Grievance and Appeal Process
JBH Members have the right to let us know if they are not satisfied with the services they are receiving or would like to receive:
- A complaint can be filed any time that about a concern about mental health services.
- An appeal can be filed if a member’s mental health services are being terminated, suspended, or reduced and they wish to appeal this decision; or
- A member may request a State hearing at anytime.
JBH MEMBERS HAVE THREE WAYS TO FILE COMPLAINTS
- Members may discuss any concerns with their mental health worker. Usually most problems and misunderstandings can be resolved quickly by talking to their worker. Members can also ask to talk to any supervisor at their clinic or your Mental Health Provider. Members have the right to not be punished for making a complaint.
- Members may also report their complaint to JBH. Members, or their representative, may write to JBH and explain the problem and why they do not agree with the decisions of their mental health worker. And, tell us what they want to have happen.
- If a member does not want to report their complaint to JBH or if you want to report a complaint about JBH or they disagree with JBH’s decision, they may contact the State’s Addictions and Mental Health Division at 503-947-5528 or 1-800-442-5238. Members have 45 days from the date they received a decision to request a hearing from the State. A form will be included with their decision letter about how to request a hearing.
